December 18, 2022 Worship (Kid's Christmas Program)

SHINE THROUGH US We do well to acknowledge that one of the reasons we celebrate the festivals and seasons of the year is our tendency to forget God's merciful presence. In worship we are not only reminded of God's promises, we also encounter the very presence of Jesus Christ. The liturgy of Advent names him Emmanuel, "God is with us." God comes to us in ordinary ways, offering extraordinary gifts: new life in baptism, gracious words to guide us on life's path, welcome food for the journey of faith. With Mary and Joseph and all the angels, we offer thanks to God for the one who was born to save us from the power of sin. Let us not forget: God is with us now.

WELCOME & ANNOUNCEMENTS

HYMN: Rejoice, Rejoice, Believers…………………………….Red 244

LIGHTING ADVENT CANDLES “Let there be light!” God’s Word proclaims the coming of the Lord. “The LORD is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear?  The LORD is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid? When the (enemies of darkness gather around me)  My heart shall not fear” Psalm 27  Blessed are those who have learned to praise you, who walk in the light of your presence.  Psalm 89 Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.  Psalm 119  We light the candle(s) of faith, preparing ourselves for Christ’s coming. Enlighten us with your grace. Prepare our hearts to welcome him with joy. Grant this through Christ our Lord, whose coming is certain and whose day draws near. Amen Beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace, mercy, and peace be with you all. And also with you.    Hymn: One Small Child……..

The Lord be with you.  And also with you. PRAYER OF THE DAY Stir up your power, O Lord, and come. Take away the hindrance of our sins and make us ready for the celebration of your birth, that we may receive you in joy and serve you always; for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen

Matthew 5: 13  Jesus said, "You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
