WELCOME AND ANNOUNCEMENTS

CONFESSION & FORGIVENESS Lord, we confess our lack of faith.  We see a glimpse of what we ought to be and we know we fall short of the goal.  We desire faith that is solid and unchanging, yet we crumble under trials and temptations.  We want to be strong, but we know our own weakness.  Our sinful condition strips us of any spiritual gain that we humanly devise. Lord, forgive us.  Accept us as we are, unworthy for the task, yet gifted for your purposes.  Give us your gift of faith. Amen.

   Our God is a great God and knows our needs for all areas of our life. God knows our weakness and our unbelieving hearts, yet loves us enough to die on a cross and provide forgiveness of our sin.  Now the focus is not on the faith that we can muster, but on the great gifts that our Lord gives daily as we live in trust.  God has given us the gift of faith, faith for the moment, faith for every trial, faith for every temptation, faith for every difficult situation.  Praise God for this inexpressible gift of faith.

PRAYER: This day brings joy into our hearts and home, dear Lord. We thank you for the covenant you made with us in Holy Baptism.  You have brought us through the study of your Word to know the meaning of our baptism, to stand before the world and confess your name as the only true God, in whom we have life eternal.  You have blessed us with a Christian home.  For all of this we thank you.  We are grateful also for our church, our congregation, our pastors and the teachers who have helped us in learning Your Word.  We are thankful likewise for the sponsors who have assisted us in our responsibility.  Equip us all our days for the demands of Christian witness.  Renew us each day, in our baptismal grace, so that we honor your holy name and praise it forever.  Amen.

HYMN: Borning Cry  (Red 732)                                                © 1985 John C. Ylvisaker

1        “I was there to hear your borning cry,  I’ll be there when you are old.

I rejoiced the day you were baptized to see your life unfold. I was there when you were but a child, with a faith to suit you well; in a blaze of light you wandered off to find where demons dwell.”

1        “When you heard the wonder of the Word I was there to cheer you on;

you were raised to praise the living Lord, to whom you now belong.

If you find someone to share your time and you join your hearts as one,

I’ll be there to make your verses rhyme from dusk till rising sun.”

2           “In the middle ages of your life, not too old, no longer young,

I’ll be there to guide you through the night, complete what I’ve begun.

When the evening gently closes in and you shut your weary eyes,

I’ll be there as I have always been, with just one more surprise.”

4   “I was there to hear your borning cry, I’ll be there when you are old.

I rejoiced the day you were baptized to see your life unfold.”

RUBY CHRISTIAN: Psalm 23 “The LORD is my shepherd;. I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters; he restores my soul. He leads me in right paths for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

WILLIAM CLARK: Matthew 4:1-2 “After Jesus was baptized, he was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tested by the devil. He fasted forty days and forty nights.”

ABBIE KINZER: Matthew 7:12 Jesus said, “Do to others what you would have them do to you.”

EMILY PECK: 1 John 1:5-8 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light and in him there is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him while we are walking in darkness, we lie and do not do what is true; but if we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.

HYMN: On Eagle’s Wings (Red 787)                                                         Michael Joncas

You who dwell in the shelter of the Lord; who abide in this shadow for life,
say to the Lord: “My refuge, my rock in whom I trust!”

And he will raise you up on eagle’s wings, bear you on the breath of dawn,
make you to shine like the sun, and hold you in the palm of his hand.

2 The snare of the fowler will never capture you, and famine will bring you no fear;
under God’s wings your refuge, with faithfulness your shield.(Refrain)

3 You need not fear the terror of the night, nor the arrow that flies by day;
though thousands fall about you, near you it shall not come. (Refrain)

4 For to the angels God’s given a command to guard you in all of your ways;
upon their hands they will bear you up, lest you dash your foot
against a stone.

REAGAN THOMPSON-ZIEMER: 1 Peter 5:7 “Cast all your anxiety on Jesus, because he cares for you.”

JENNA VAN SOMEREN: Luke 6:27-28 Jesus said, “I say to you who are listening: Love your enemies; do good to those who hate you; bless those who curse you; pray for those who mistreat you.”
